Healthy Minds. Healthy Lives. Healthy Smiles. by: Dr. Nishita Ondhia
As an avid reader, I often switch back and forth between fiction and non-fiction. I do, however, love a solid business book that empowers change both professionally and personally.
Atomic Habits by James Clear is one of my all time favourites.
I love Dale Carnegie’s How to Win Friends and Influence people.
Brene Brown has an incredible series on vulnerability and shame. One of my favourites is The Gifts of Imperfection.
The Seven habits of Highly Effective People by Steve Covey is a classic.
John Maxwell’s Developing the Leader in You, 2.0 is incredible.
All of the above address growth and how to move through desired change. Whether we understand it or not, we are always in a constant state of evolution
In the last several years, I have become very interested in the connection between our thoughts and how this affects our life. Manifestation is an incredible buzz word in our modern society and I am coming to understand that so much of our lives is controlled by our minds.
Joe Dispenza’s Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself and Becoming Supernatural are life changing.
It is not a new concept, Ghandi stated:
“Your beliefs become your thoughts;
your thoughts become your words;
your words become your actions;
your actions become your habits;
your habits become your values;
your values become your destiny.”
What role does our mind play?
The idea is simple. It does, however, require a full rewire of how we see the world; this is not simple. It is manifestation. But what is manifestation besides a modern buzzword?
Shawn Achor’s The Power of Beliefs is fantastic! He talks about the 4 horseman of the modern world – burnout, anxiety, loneliness and depression.
I experience them all. Working on one’s self is an ongoing, evolutionary process.
Control your thoughts by “changing the math in order to change the path”. It is not enough to simply believe, we must be the architects of our lives by knowing each seemingly small choice is not an isolated event. Every thought and subsequent action is a building blocks that constructs our character and ultimately the trajectory of our lives. Create your life with your mind, set markers in place and then let it unfold.
As a dentist, I see every day how small, consistent habits shape long-term health. The same is true in life. Our thoughts become our habits, our habits become our actions, and our actions ultimately determine our health and happiness. If we can become more intentional with how we think, breathe, move and care for ourselves today, we create the foundation for a healthier tomorrow.
